In the Department of Computer Science, students are expected to become engineers and researchers with advanced expertise, flexible thinking and creativity, and a broad perspective, through an educational program that further deepens the content of the undergraduate Department of Computer Science, and through research guidance focused on specialized fields. About the Department of Computer Science Information technology is rapidly increasing in breadth and depth in both scientific and technical aspects, and at the same time, in our advanced information society, it is becoming increasingly important. On top of that, while Japan needs to engage in activities befitting an internationally advanced country, there is a significant shortage of advanced information technology engineers and researchers. In this department, education and research guidance focused on specialized areas is provided to further deepen the educational content of the undergraduate program in order to nurture specialists who are directly involved in the development of information engineering and information technology, and who will become leaders in the field.Students who study in this department are expected to develop flexible thinking and creative abilities, as well as advanced specialized knowledge, and to become high-level engineers, researchers, etc. who can be active with a broad perspective. There are four fields of study in this department: Communication and Network Engineering, Media Information Engineering, Computational Intelligence, and Computational Engineering.Students will be assigned to a laboratory, where they will research issues in their field of study. The curriculum is centered on courses in the field to which the student belongs, and consideration is given to broadening knowledge by taking courses in other related fields and lectures in other majors. Expected career paths for graduates of this major include information-related companies, institutions of higher education, research institutions, and a wide range of general companies, institutions, and organizations. Majors Communication and Network Engineering Students study efficient communication and communication control methods for various types of multimedia information. The detailed objectives consist of four research areas: wireless communications and signal processing research, research to improve the performance of information networks, research to ensure the reliability and security of information and communications, and information distribution systems. Further research will include IP-based communication systems, control of communication quality, digital signal processing of multimedia information, research on protocols for information networks with high speed and high functionality, and research on information and communication systems to improve reliability and realize a secure social information distribution system by correcting errors in communication and processing systems. Media Information Engineering The information that a human obtains from the outside world comes from a variety of sensors, including visual, auditory, and tactile sensors, and it is recognized instantaneously at a high level.Specifically, our group is engaged in research on image recognition technologies for realizing the visual functions of computers, such as 3D shape restoration and posture recognition, multiple object tracking in moving image processing, technologies for viewing people and their applications, research on the fusion of computer graphics and vision technologies to achieve mixed reality, and analysis, processing, recognition, and understanding of spoken language and sound media such as speech, natural language, music, and acoustic signals. Computational Intelligence The human brain is the center that controls intellect, emotion, and intention. In the field of Computational Intelligence, research is conducted that aims to elucidate how the brain works and to realize intelligent work using computers.Specifically, research on artificial intelligence algorithms inspired by the behavior of living organisms, such as sleep-driving and curiosity-based behavior; research on neural network models and algorithms that mimic brain mechanisms; research on mechanisms and applications of machine learning that gradually become smarter as they gain experience; research on mechanisms and applications of inference modeling human thought processes; research on intuitive dialogue support using onomatopoeia and educational support robots for children in the gray zone of developmental disabilities; research on artificial intelligence algorithms based on large amounts of data (big data); research on data mining to extract rules hidden in large amounts of data (big data); and research on EEG measurement and its application to brain-machine interfaces. Computational Engineering In the field of information engineering, various kinds of high-speed, high-volume computations are performed using computers.Examples include the design of structures and the analysis and forecasting of physical phenomena.Research is conducted on the theory and methods of symbolic computation, which are the basis for automatic theorem proving of equations and functional and logic programming, as well as for cryptology, which is at the core of information security technology that supports the security of the Internet society.
