UTRIP Online 2022 Fall ran from December 1 to January 31, 2023 in the Astronomy Department. After careful examination of the application materials from 414 and 28 applicants respectively, 11 candidates were selected in summer and 3 candidates were selected in the fall to participate in the 8-week program from their own home. After experimental or theoretical research remotely supervised by leading researchers of the Graduate School of Science (GSS) at UTokyo in each assigned lab, participants completed the project paper, and presented their results to the lab mates online on the last day of the program. The staff were very helpful and explained the experimental procedures well. I think the program is well structured for an online experience, they chose a series of experiments that are enjoyable also remotely. Even if I had never seen before several experiments they did I was able to understand what they were doing. Virtual lab experience was much more better than I expected. During pandemic, I got so many opportunity to attend different virtual lab sessions, but I would say that this was the best out of all. I thoroughly enjoyed virtual lab, learnt a lot during this program, gained so many new skills (which are going help me a lot in this field). It was incredibly good experience to participate in the online experiments and discussions, I really gained a significant amount of understanding of the research work. I wasn't able to experience the online experiments as results were taken from a borehole at Nankai trough. However, the online lectures and chatting was sufficient and gave loads of background and information. It was very good to chat to professor in real time. Online experiments is very interesting, although sometimes the voice and video is not very clear. More interactions between mentor and students would be great as we can engage in that way In our lab, most work can be done online, so online experience did not bring any inconvenience. However, it would be more effective I think to work onsite. It was a great pleasure and a very enthralling experience to participate in the UTRIP program. I enjoyed the online discussions and was inspired by the research conducted in the field. The course was well-structured and the tasks were intellectually stimulating. After completing the program, I would like to pursue my future career in the same research area and would participate again if I would have had such an opportunity.
