Various childhood to geriatric diseases have been treated in our department. The diagnosis and treatment of neuropsychiatric diseases such as dementia, sleep disorder, and epilepsy are actively performed in addition to depression and schizophrenia. Consultation system/therapeutic strategies Team practice, involving psychiatric health-designated physicians and specialists belonging to various medical societies, is conducted. The ward has 41 beds. Comprehensive treatment, such as drug and cognitive behavioral therapies, is provided. Patients with physical complications are simultaneously treated by utilizing the characteristics of a general hospital. Outpatient services, including those on the initial consultation, are provided based on a reservation system. However, for emergencies, they are available from Monday to Friday. Considering the association with the area, referred patients are accepted, and medical care is provided in cooperation with various hospitals. Fields of expertise 1) Diagnostic brain imaging in patients with depression or geriatric psychiatric diseases 2) Diagnosis and treatment of sleep/circadian rhythm disorders such as sleep apnea syndrome and hypersomnia 3) Diagnosis of paroxysmal diseases, such as epilepsy 4) Comprehensive imaging-/electroencephalography-/neuropsychological examination-based diagnosis and treatment of dementia 5) Nonconvulsive electroconvulsive therapy for refractory depression 6) Cognitive function- and brain image-based diagnosis of childhood psychiatric diseases Advanced medical practice In the outpatient clinic, the most advanced medical care using advanced medical devices, such as PET and MRI systems, is provided by specialists in various fields, such as sleep, epilepsy, and dementia, in addition to general outpatient services. Furthermore, psychiatric care during childhood/puberty is promoted in cooperation with the Children’s Mental Care Division. In the ward, team practice, involving the management of complications related to physical diseases and nonconvulsive electroconvulsive therapy for refractory depression, is conducted by experienced staff by utilizing the characteristics of a general hospital. A large number of referred patients have been treated. Regional mental health activities are also positively promoted in cooperation with hospitals in the area. Symptoms/diseases treated in our department Various neuropsychiatric diseases have been treated, as follows: (1) anxiety-related diseases such as panic and obsessive-compulsive disorders, (2) sleep disorders such as insomnia, sleep apnea syndrome, and hypersomnia, (3) paroxysmal diseases such as epilepsy, (4) mood disorders such as depression, (5) schizophrenia, (6) dementia such as Alzheimer’s disease, (7) eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia, and (8) childhood diseases such as autistic spectrum disorder. Primary examinations and explanations The diagnosis of neuropsychiatric diseases/higher brain dysfunction and evaluation of treatment responses are comprehensively conducted using the most advanced imaging procedures, such as MRI and SPECT. Diagnoses of sleep disorders and epilepsy are made based on precise examination data using simultaneous videotape recording for many hours and overnight sleep electroencephalography. In patients with some diseases, psychological examinations (Rorschach, personality, and cognitive function tests) and a recently developed cognitive function test are used prior to treatment. Thus, the most advanced treatment is provided for patients with various diseases in the field of neuropsychiatry by accurately evaluating the morbid state and condition based on the most advanced examinations.
